Product Description

Ballarini Gorgonzola Italian Cheese 100g (Geographical Indication)

Ballarini Gorgonzola Dolce is a type of blue cheese from the northern regions of Italy, distinguished by its creamy texture and slightly sweet aroma. Also known as the "moldy cheese of Italy," it is a world-renowned cheese. Made from cow's milk, this cheese is matured for at least two months, achieving a soft and spreadable texture. Its elegant blue veins and slightly salty flavor offer a unique experience for cheese lovers. The cheese has a strong aroma and juicy flavor.

The milk used in this cheese production comes exclusively from Piedmont and Lombardy. Gorgonzola originated in the Lombardy region of Italy in the 12th century and has become a world-renowned cheese over time. The Ballarini brand prioritizes quality and authenticity in the production of this traditional cheese, offering a historical flavor journey with every slice.

Product Story

The origin of Gorgonzola cheese dates back to ancient times. It is thought to have been first produced in 879 AD in the town of Gorgonzola, near Milan. Gorgonzola's first name was "stracchino di Gorgonzola" and was later better defined by the synonym "green stracchino". At that time, cheese was produced in the fall when the cows returned from the mountain pastures. The production of Gorgonzola is very heavily controlled to ensure it meets certain production standards – in the EU, it has Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status and in Italy it is a DOC cheese. In the United States, there are two types of Gorgonzola available - Dolce and Piccante. The first is sweet, milky, creamy and spicy. The latter is older - usually a year or more - and therefore has a sharper taste.
